How it works

How washer & dryer removal in Sacramento works.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS IN 10 SECONDS

What we do
We unhook and haul washers and dryers across Sacramento: top-loaders, front-loaders, stacked sets and gas dryers. We shut the valves, drain the hoses, cap the gas line and carry each machine out.
What it costs
A single washer or dryer starts at $74, and a pair is priced by truck space. Payment happens after the machines are out. Fuel is included, and nobody in our service area pays a travel surcharge.
Where we work
We pull laundry sets from homes all over the Sacramento region, whether they're upstairs, in a closet or already in the garage. See Sacramento junk removal or appliance removal for the rest of the house.
How soon
When a new set is on the way, same-day pickup of the old one is often available. Our phones stay on 24 hours, 7 days a week, so call early for the best chance at a slot.
Where it goes
Steel cabinets, drums, motors and counterweights go to scrap metal recycling. Working machines in good shape may be donated. Hoses and plastic parts that can't be recycled go to a permitted landfill. On average, about 45% of our loads are donated or recycled.

Washer and dryer removal

Unhooked, carried out, and recycled.

How we get a laundry set out of the house.

Laundry machines usually leave in pairs. A new set is on the way, the old washer finally flooded the floor, or a house is being cleared and nobody wants the machines. Sometimes it's a single dryer that quit. Either way, we disconnect them and carry them out.

On the washer, we shut the hot and cold valves, unscrew the fill hoses and pull the drain hose from the standpipe. There's always some water left in the drum and hoses, so we let it drain before the machine is tipped.

Electric dryers just need to be unplugged and pulled away from the wall. Gas dryers take more care: we close the gas valve behind the machine, disconnect the flex line and cap it, then disconnect the vent duct. We do the same for gas stoves when they're part of the load.

Front-loaders are heavier than most people expect, because of the counterweight inside. Stacked units have to be separated or moved as one tall piece, depending on the model and the space. We figure that out before we start.

Laundry rooms are often in tight places: a hall closet, an upstairs landing, a corner of the garage behind the water heater. We plan the route out before either machine moves.

Many of our laundry jobs include other things. This August it was a sleeper couch, a dryer and a twin mattress in Sacramento. In Stockton this May it was a treadmill, a washer, a lawnmower and household items.

If you're replacing the set, you can leave the old one in place and we'll haul it once the new one is delivered, or have us clear the space first so the installers have room to work.

Old washers sometimes leave a surprise: a rusted shutoff valve that won't close all the way, or a drain line that's been leaking behind the machine for months. If a valve still drips once the hoses are off, that's a job for a plumber before the new set goes in.

Apartment and condo laundry closets are usually the tightest. The machines slide out on the floor, and there's often only a couple of inches to spare on either side. They have to come out slowly and straight.

Rental property owners replace laundry sets between tenants all the time. We can pull the old pair the same visit we clear anything else the last tenant left behind.

Dryer vents collect lint for years. When the old dryer comes out, it's a good time to have the vent cleaned before the new one goes in, since clogged vents are a known fire risk.

The hoses, the old dryer duct and any lint-caked vent pieces can go too. Just point them out.

Before we come

Getting the laundry room ready.

  • Run it empty: take out any clothes and run a drain cycle on the washer if it still works.
  • Gas or electric: let us know what kind of dryer you have.
  • Location: tell us if the machines are upstairs, in a closet or behind something.
  • Stacked sets: send a photo so we can see how they come apart.

If the machines are already out in the garage or driveway, the pickup is quick.

Where it goes

Where old machines go.

  • Steel cabinets, drums and motors go to scrap metal recycling.
  • Working machines in good shape may go to donation.
  • Counterweights stay inside the machine and go with it to the recycler.
  • Hoses, duct and plastic parts that can't be recycled go to a permitted landfill.
Pricing

What it costs.

A single washer or dryer starts at $74. A pair, or laundry machines with other junk, is priced by truck space: a standard pickup starts at $149 and a full load is $749. Disconnecting, including gas dryers, is part of the quote.

If you're replacing the set, we can also haul the old pedestals, drip pans and the boxes the new machines came in, all in the same load.

Gas dryers

Gas dryers, handled carefully.

A gas dryer connects to your home's gas supply through a flexible line. We close the shutoff valve, disconnect the line and cap it, so the connection is safe when the machine is gone. If you smell gas at any point, leave the house and call PG&E.

Front-loaders

Front-loaders and stacked units.

Front-load washers are heavy for their size. Stackable sets need to be separated or tipped as one piece. Neither is a problem with the right dolly and two people.

Some front-loaders have shipping bolts in the back. We don't need them to haul the machine away; they're only for moving one you're keeping.

Upstairs

Upstairs laundry rooms.

Newer homes often put the laundry on the second floor. Two of us carry each machine down, one step at a time, and we plan the turn at the landing before we start.

Tell us how many steps there are and whether the staircase turns.
