Walnut Grove is a small unincorporated town on the Sacramento River in the Delta, with a historic main street and neighborhoods on both sides of the river. Nearby Locke is one of the last rural Chinese American towns in the country.

We did two jobs in Walnut Grove this May. One was a couple of small appliances and some electronics, which went to e-waste and metal recycling rather than the landfill.

Many of the homes along River Road and in the old downtown are more than a century old, with basements, attics and outbuildings that hold generations of belongings. Clearing one takes patience; we work through it at your pace and check before anything that looks important goes on the truck.

If you own a rental in town, we can clear it between tenants so the cleaners can get in the same week.

After winter storms, branches and debris pile up along the levee and in yards. We load what's been cut and piled and rake up after. Garden waste goes to composting where possible, and anything metal to recycling. Nothing is left along the road afterward, and every cleared area is swept or raked.

Old boat trailers' tires, rusted gear and broken coolers can go too, and tires are taken to a tire recycler.

Walnut Grove's old downtown includes buildings from the town's Japanese American and Chinese American history. Families clearing long-held homes and storefronts often find photographs, papers and heirlooms tucked away; we set every one of those aside for the family.

Pear orchards line much of the river here, and farm properties sometimes have old ladders, bins and sprayers stored in sheds. The metal from all of it goes to recycling.
