Piano removal in Roseville

The heaviest thing in the house.

What Roseville piano jobs look like.

A piano is usually the heaviest single thing in a home, and one of the hardest to get rid of. Few people want a free piano anymore, and moving one takes more than a couple of friends.

In May 2025 we removed a baby grand piano from a home in west Roseville. Grands have to be taken apart first: the lid, the legs and the pedal lyre come off, the body goes on its side on a piano board, and then it's strapped and carried out.

Uprights are more common. Near Roseville we've moved an upright out of a Woodland home this September, an upright and a recliner from a home in Winters in May, and an upright from Elk Grove in 2025.

Piano removal is slow, careful work. We protect floors and door frames, take stairs one step at a time, and never drag a piano across a floor.

Upright pianos are the most common. Consoles and spinets are smaller and lighter; full-size uprights and old player pianos are heavy and top-heavy. Either way, we move them on a piano dolly with straps, never on a regular hand truck.

If the piano is in a room with a step down, a tight hallway or a front porch with stairs, tell us when you call. Those details decide how many hands and how much time the job needs.

The bench, lamps and any sheet music can go on the same trip.

Pricing

Piano pricing.

Uprights from $249.

Upright piano removal starts at $249. Grand and baby grand pianos get a quote, because they take longer and need to be partly disassembled. Stairs, long carries and tight turns are factored in, and you get the price before we start.

Grands

Baby grands and grands.

Taken apart, then carried.

A baby grand can weigh 500 pounds or more, and nearly all of it is in the body. We remove the legs, the lid and the lyre, tip the body onto a padded piano board, strap it and carry it out on its side. The legs and lid go out separately.

Grands also need the path measured. The body goes out on its side, so the door has to be wider than the piano is tall from floor to lid.

Why remove it

When a piano has to go.

Most calls come after an estate, a downsize or a remodel, or when a piano has cracked a soundboard and can't be tuned anymore. If yours still plays, ask around first; if nobody wants it, we'll take it.

Pianos that have sat in a garage or near a window for years often have cracked soundboards or loose tuning pins, and those usually can't be restored economically.

Around town

Anywhere in Roseville.

We remove pianos from homes across Roseville, including Westpark, Sun City Roseville, Diamond Oaks and the older neighborhoods near downtown.

Protecting the home

Floors, walls and doorways.

Why pianos take longer.

Before moving a piano, we lay down floor protection along the path, pad door frames and remove anything that could get knocked over. On stairs, one crew member controls the piano from below while the other guides from above. It's slow on purpose.
