Mattress removal

Old mattress out, recycled.

Mattresses are one of our most common pickups.

Mattresses or box springs show up in 183 of our job records. Sometimes it's a single twin. Sometimes it's four mattresses, a bunk bed and a trundle from a family that's downsizing.

A mattress is floppy and awkward rather than heavy, and a king or California king won't bend around tight stair turns. We carry it out from the bedroom, box spring and frame too, and take the frame apart if needed.

Most of our mattress jobs aren't just the mattress. People usually add the bed frame, a headboard, a dresser or whatever else is in the room. That's fine. It's priced by how much space it all takes in the truck. A bed set with a dresser and a nightstand often still fits in a standard pickup.

Stained or damaged mattresses are fine. If there are bed bugs, just tell us ahead of time so we can wrap it before it comes through your house.

Before we come

A few quick tips.

Not required, but they help.

  • Strip the bed. Keep your sheets and mattress pads.
  • Tell us the size: twin, full, queen, king or California king, and whether there's a box spring.
  • Bed bugs? Let us know when you book so we can wrap it.
  • Anything else going? Add the frame, headboard or dresser to the same trip.

If you're replacing the mattress, tell us when the new one arrives and we'll aim to get the old one out first. That way you're never stuck with two beds in one room, or a new mattress leaning against the hallway wall. For free drop-off and store take-back options, see our guide on how to dispose of a mattress in Sacramento.

Where it goes

Where your mattress ends up.

Mattresses are one of the easiest things to recycle.

  • Mattresses and box springs go to California's Bye Bye Mattress program, where the steel springs, foam and fabric are separated and recycled.
  • Metal bed frames go to scrap metal recycling.
  • Wood frames and headboards in good shape can be donated. Broken ones go to the North Area Recovery Station or Kiefer Landfill.
Pricing

What mattress removal costs.

Simple and upfront.

A single mattress or box spring starts at $74. A standard pickup, like a full bed set or a couple of mattresses, starts at $149. Bigger loads follow our load scale up to $749 for a full load.

There's no separate mattress fee. The price covers the carry, the haul and the recycling. You'll see it before we load.

What we take

Beds and bedding we haul.

Any size, any condition.

Memory foam mattresses are heavier than they look and don't fold easily. A king-size memory foam mattress usually takes two people to move without dragging it across the floor.

Replacing a mattress and the store charges to haul the old one away? We'll take it, along with anything else in the bedroom you're done with.

  • Twin, full, queen, king and California king mattresses
  • Box springs and foundations
  • Memory foam, hybrid and pillow-top mattresses
  • Crib and toddler mattresses
  • Futon mattresses and sofa-bed mattresses
  • Mattress toppers and foam pads
  • Metal and wood bed frames, headboards and footboards
  • Bunk beds, trundles and daybeds
  • Adjustable bases, which have motors and go to e-waste recycling
Free options

Can I drop it off for free?

Yes, if you can haul it.

California's Bye Bye Mattress program runs free drop-off sites where you can leave a mattress or box spring at no charge. You'll need a vehicle big enough to carry it and someone to help load it.

If you'd rather not wrestle a king-size mattress into an SUV, we'll pick it up from the bedroom. Clearing out the rest of the room too? See furniture removal.

The day of

How a mattress pickup goes.

Fast, simple, done.

Book a window, and the crew texts or calls when they're headed your way. They'll look at what's going, confirm the price, and then start carrying. Mattresses come out standing on edge so they fit through doorways and around stair turns without scraping the walls.

If there's a frame, they take it apart and carry the pieces out with the mattress. Bunk beds and loft beds come down in sections. When the room is clear, they sweep where the bed was. Most single-bed pickups take a few minutes once the crew is inside, and you pay only after everything is gone.

Clearing out a kid's room, a guest room or a whole house? Add everything to the same trip. It's priced by space, so a few more pieces usually cost less than a second visit.
