In Davis, appliance calls usually come at move-out time. A landlord's rental needs the old fridge gone before new tenants arrive, or a student apartment has a mini-fridge nobody wants to take home. The details that change the job.
Refrigerators are tall and top-heavy, so they go out upright on a dolly, strapped in. French door and side-by-side models sometimes need the doors off to clear a kitchen doorway, and we do that on site.
Washers and dryers usually sit in a tight laundry closet. We shut the water, cap the lines, pull the drain hose and, for gas dryers, close the valve and cap the gas line before sliding them out.
Stoves and ranges are heavy but short. Gas ranges get the same valve-and-cap treatment. Electric ranges get unplugged from the 240-volt outlet.
Freezers and mini-fridges are simple, as long as they're empty and thawed.
Water heaters get drained first, since a full tank weighs hundreds of pounds, then the gas or power is shut off and the lines are capped.
