Warehouse cleanouts

When the back of the building fills up.

What a warehouse cleanout involves.

Warehouses fill up slowly. A few broken pallets get stacked in a corner, a shelf of discontinued stock never moves, packaging from the last shipment ends up behind the dock door. One day there's no room to work. That's when businesses call us.

Pallets are the most common item by far. This July in Sacramento we hauled wood from pallets and crates; in May, another load of pallets. In El Dorado Hills this September it was cardboard, a pallet and a ceiling joist, about half a load.

Shelving and fixtures come next. Freestanding metal shelving, work tables and carts can be taken apart and loaded. Bolted pallet racking should be unbolted from the floor first; once it's free, the uprights and beams go to metal recycling.

Old inventory is often the hardest decision for the business. We can separate items that can be donated or recycled from what has to go to the landfill.

Moving out of a building is another big reason. Leases usually require the space to be returned empty and broom-clean. We clear it so your final walkthrough goes smoothly.

Shops and small warehouses have their own mix: old workbenches, broken tools, scrap metal, tires and parts. In Roseville this May it was cardboard boxes, a 4-by-3 metal table, an ironing board and a shelving unit.

We can work nights, weekends or during business hours — whenever your office is empty, so operations aren't interrupted.

Manufacturing and fabrication shops leave behind a different mix: scrap metal, offcuts, broken jigs, worn-out machines and old workbenches. The metal goes to scrap recycling, and the rest is sorted for disposal.

Mezzanines and upper storage areas often hold things nobody has touched in years. We check them during the walkthrough so the estimate covers the whole building.

Some warehouses have outdoor yards with piles of junk, rusted containers, broken pallets and weeds growing through it all. We can clear the yard as part of the same job.

If you're taking over a building from a previous tenant, you might find their leftovers too. We can clear them so your own move-in starts clean.

Offices inside warehouses count too: old desks, chairs, filing cabinets and break-room furniture can be loaded along with the warehouse contents.

Retail stockrooms are small warehouses of their own. Seasonal displays, broken fixtures, empty boxes and returns build up behind every store. We can clear a stockroom in one visit.

Contractors' yards and storage buildings collect leftover materials from past jobs: lumber offcuts, old doors, tile, fixtures and broken tools. Much of it can be recycled.

Agricultural buildings around the region, like packing sheds and equipment barns, sometimes need the same kind of cleanout. Bins, pallets, old equipment and scrap are all part of it.

Cold-storage and food warehouses may have broken cooler panels, strip curtains and plastic bins. Those can be part of the cleanout too.

Tell us about loading docks, forklifts on site and where the truck can park. Those details make the job faster.

Before we come

Getting the space ready.

  • Mark keepers: tag anything that stays with tape or a sign.
  • Racking: unbolt pallet racking from the floor if it's anchored.
  • Hazards: set aside chemicals, oils, batteries and paint.
  • Access: tell us about docks, gates and building hours.

A walkthrough or a few photos is all we need for a free estimate.

Where it goes

Where warehouse loads go.

  • Metal shelving, racking and scrap go to metal recycling.
  • Cardboard goes to recycling.
  • Usable inventory and furniture can go to donation.
  • Broken pallets and mixed waste go to the North Area Recovery Station or Kiefer Landfill.
Pricing

How warehouse pricing works.

Every warehouse cleanout starts with a free estimate, on site or from photos. You get one price for the whole job, covering the crew, the truckloads and the disposal fees.

Big jobs can be split into phases so the space stays usable while we work.

A walkthrough takes little time, and it lets us plan the number of trucks and trips before the job starts, so the day runs smoothly.

If the building has a forklift and an operator, tell us. Palletized loads can be staged by the door, which speeds up loading.

Pallets

Pallets and crates.

Broken pallets, custom crates and dunnage take up a lot of room. We load them by hand and stack them tight to keep the truck count down.

Pallets in good condition are often wanted by pallet recyclers, so we keep them separate from broken ones where we can.

Plastic pallets and bins can often be recycled.

Move-outs

Returning the space.

If your lease ends soon, tell us the date. We'll plan the cleanout so the space is empty and swept before the final walkthrough.

Leftover signage, shelving and fixtures can all be removed before you hand back the keys.

If the landlord has a checklist for returning the space, share it with us so nothing is missed.

Floor tape, signs on the walls and trash in the corners are small things that can hold up a deposit.

Inventory

Old inventory.

Discontinued products, returns and damaged stock can be hauled in bulk. If some of it can be donated, we'll set it aside.

Tell us if any products need special handling, like electronics, batteries or chemicals.

Transparent pricing

The price you see is the price you pay.

Every cleanout gets a free on-site or photo estimate. Your price is confirmed before we lift a thing.
